How to Choose the Right Knee Brace in Singapore

How to Choose the Right Knee Brace in Singapore | Balance Core

Buying the Right Knee Support in Singapore

The use of a knee brace is to maintain the structural integrity of the knee joint when there are ligamentous injuries and the muscles surrounding the knee joint are too weak to carry out its role. The brace should fit snugly around the knee and without it being too tight causing circulation issues. If unsure, a measuring tape can be used as most of the sizes are fitted accordingly to the circumference around the knee.

When choosing the right knee brace, it is paramount to consider a few factors:

        1. Activity level of the wearer
        2. Extent of knee injury
        3. Type of knee injury

Your physiotherapist will recommend a suitable brace upon assessment.

When to See a Knee Specialist ?

Whenever there’s abnormal forces or stresses within the knee joint, pain can be experienced. If you are experiencing knee pain for more than 2 months without any associated traumatic event, and the pain is not going away, or getting worse, it’s best to seek help from a knee specialist. On the contrary, if your knee pain is caused by a fall or accident, early rehabilitation is of utmost importance in recovery. If not treated timely, prolonged knee pain can lead to early arthritis and the possibility of a total knee replacement in the future.

Knee pain is usually not a standalone condition. Being the center joint in the lower limb, abnormal loading from the hip or ankle/foot will always alter the loading on the knee joint. Therefore, our physiotherapy assessment for knee pain will always involve analysis of the entire body biomechanics. Our physiotherapists are trained to identify faulty biomechanics that will place additional stress onto the knee joint. This can be related to your daily activities such as walking, stairs climbing or squatting.

The use of knee brace is only recommended when there’s an instability issue and the muscles are not doing its job in stabilizing the joint. If you are relying on the brace for a long time with persistent pain that doesn’t go away, it is best for you to seek assessment and treatment from Balance Core Physiotherapists.
