These pains could show some severe and acute signs that every young person should always be on the lookout. These include trauma, numbness, urine difficulties, motor deficiency, among others.
What causes lower pains to be so prevalent?
  • The lower part of your back usually contains five vertebrae, which is less than of those around the mid-back and the neck. This makes the lumbar area less flexible and subjected to lots of stress loading.
  • These vertebrae bones are engaged in a lot of both light and heavy lifting.
  • At the lower back, it is the area where the pelvis connects to the spine, accommodating the weight of the body on the upper side. When the upper back or the pelvic region do not move so freely, the low back will have to work a lot harder to get things done. This makes the low back more vulnerable.
Seek the advice of a physician when:
  • The pain exceeds three weeks
  • If the pain you are experiencing continues to get worse
  • If you have started experiencing other red flag signs such as
    • Fever – Unresponsive fever, in combination with back pain indicates the existence of a more severe infection
    • Trauma – If you have ever experienced any form of minor or major trauma, such as falling down or a car accident.
    • Tingling or Numbness – If the tingling or numbness does not go away with medications, this may indicate severe damage or irritation of the nerves which may denote the existence of either herniated discs or spinal stenosis.
    • Bladder/Bowel malfunction – Experiencing pain on the back in combination with a bowel/bladder that is not functioning well may indicate compressed or paralyzed nerves at the lower side of the spine.
    • Foot Drop – You may notice that you are unable to lift your foot and may trip easily when walking. This may indicate a possible nerve problem.
What are the usual causes of lower back pain?
Herniated Disc
    • A herniated disc refers to a situation in which the bulging disc spills out of its lining and hence compressing and irritating the nerves near it.
Accidents
    • Falling from height, a car accident or carrying heavy loads with an incorrect technique may cause back injuries
Spine Arthritis
    • This condition refers to a situation whereby the spine joints are degenerated, causing the lubricating fluid around the joints to get depleted. As you grow older, wear and tear around the joints is inevitable, which is the primary cause of pain on the back.

What lifestyle factors cause low back pain?

These include:
  • Smoking: Smoking escalates the probability of inflammation chances in your body hence causing a slow healing process.
  • Excessive Weight: Obesity is said to be the cause of many chronic body pain. When your body mass index increases, it causes a lot of stress around the joint between the spine and the pelvis that supports the body weight, increasing the chances of wear and tear.
  • Strenuous physical activity: The lower part of the body experiences a lot of movements. It is the part that majorly involves the lifting of objects. Lifting more massive objects or being involved in an activity that is causing you to strain a lot may lead to wear and tear of your lower spine.
